Linking your free WordPress pages
In our last session, we learnt how to create our own pages and customize them using the free WordPress. Many of you have sent what you have done on your own. I am very pleased with the creativity and innovation you have exhibited.
A blog is a page on your website
Most of you also made it clear that, you want to start writing and editing your own blog. I assure you that writing a blog is the easiest of all that we are doing. We will start sooner. Just keep on practicing and you will get everything easy and done. The reason for all these lessons on the pages and website is that, a blog post is only a page on the website. You can have several pages on your website where only one, two or three of them would be for blogging on various niche.
Why you should learn to customize your WordPress pages
Based on the reason stated above, it is very imperative we take these lessons serious. Don’t forget, whatever you acquire now would also help you manage your own professional website when you get it.
Most of us are still working on creating pages. So, today, our objective is to learn how to link pages to one another in our free WordPress account using buttons and inbound links.
Let’s get the ball rolling
In this tutorial I will open the home page we have already created. This is done by right clicking on pages in the left menu on the dashboard. Click open in new tab to open the home page.
I have named my homepage blog. So, I will right click on Blog and open in new tab or double click to open.
Now that we have opened the homepage, lets go ahead to link our prime blog page to the homepage. This can be done in several ways. But, we will keep it simple.
Move the cursor to blog as you edit, press enter key to add a new block. Click on the + sign on the right of your new block, type button in the search console in the menu that pops and click button. Click on add text to name your button as you deem fit. In my case, I am naming it ‘PRIME BLOG’ because that is the name of the page I am linking it to.
Using a button to link your pages
Press ctrl+k or click on the link symbol as shown in the images below. Paste the link of the page you are linking in the console. You can set it to open in a new tab by clicking on the button in the menu and press enter or click the embed sign.
You can get the link of your page by opening that page in the browser and copying the link from the browser. You can also get the link by clicking on the jetpack in the top right corner and clicking on copy.
Using text to link your pages
Better still, if you don’t want to use buttons, you can also add it to any text in your post. This can be done by selecting the text you desire. Press ctrl+k and follow the procedure as indicated in the above procedure. Use the images below as your guide.
You may format the font style and font colour in the right panel. Play around this to get familiarized with it. Update your page and save changes. Reload your free WordPress website and you will see that the changes have been effected.
Don’t forget to register and leave your comments. I expect those of us who have several buttons but cannot link them to do so. Till our next session, you can contact us.
We will discuss more on blogging on your free WordPress website in our next tutorial.
